Neuromorphic Computing Inspired by the Human Brain

Neuromorphic computing mimics the human brain’s neural networks to build AI chips that process information efficiently with less power.

Unlike traditional processors, brain-inspired chips can process information through electrical spikes, similar to signals sent between biological neurons.

Spiking Neural Networks activate artificial neurons when signals cross a set threshold, helping AI respond to changing data in real time.

Event-driven computing processes data when meaningful changes occur, potentially reducing unnecessary calculations and energy use.

Memristors and in-memory computing bring data storage closer to processing, helping reduce delays caused by moving data between separate units.

Intel Loihi and IBM TrueNorth are notable brain-inspired chip projects designed to support efficient computing and neural network processing.

Neuromorphic computing could help robots, drones, smart sensors, and autonomous vehicles react quickly while using less energy.

Event-based cameras detect changes in individual pixels, helping machines track movement with low latency instead of processing every frame continuously.

Neuromorphic computing still faces hardware, software, and training challenges. It is best viewed as a specialized AI approach, not a replacement for GPUs.
