Moroccan authorities are continuing search and rescue operations for five fishermen aboard a traditional fishing boat that went missing off the coast of Safi, the Ministry of Maritime Fisheries announced.
Authorities were alerted on Friday, October 23, at approximately 5 p.m., after the owner of the fishing boat Lalla Khadija, registered under number 7-7016, reported that the vessel had failed to return to Safi port as expected.
The Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center in Bouznika immediately launched operations in the boat’s suspected location, alerting fishing vessels and commercial ships operating nearby.
Two rescue boats from Safi and Agadir joined the search, alongside fishing vessels and merchant ships redirected toward the area.
The operation was reinforced by two helicopters belonging to the Royal Gendarmerie and Royal Navy, which conducted several aerial searches.
The ministry said difficult weather and sea conditions were complicating efforts to locate the missing vessel and rescue its five crew members.
Search operations remain underway, involving civilian and military resources under the coordination of the Bouznika rescue center.
