Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Commitment to Global Polio Eradication on World Polio Day
Saudi Arabia, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), marks World Polio Day on October 24 by reaffirming its commitment to eradicating polio through vaccines, health awareness campaigns, and medical support to countries in need. The Kingdom has implemented 15 projects worth over $521 million across various countries in this field.
In 2025, KSrelief signed two agreements totaling $500 million to protect 370 million children annually from polio. The first agreement, worth $300 million, supports the World Health Organization's efforts in high-risk countries, particularly Pakistan and Afghanistan, covering preventive, technical, and epidemiological surveillance activities. The second agreement, worth $200 million, supports the United Nations Children’s Fund's efforts through vaccine procurement, cold storage, primary healthcare centers, and health education campaigns.
KSrelief also signed agreements with WHO and UNICEF on the sidelines of the World Health Summit 2022 in Berlin to prevent measles and polio outbreaks in Somalia, Sudan, Iraq, Congo, Central African Republic, Guinea, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, benefiting more than 14 million individuals.
In 2016, KSrelief provided 15,000 doses of meningitis vaccine and 15,000 doses of polio vaccine to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and contributed to supporting polio treatment, control, and prevention in Afghanistan.
These efforts reflect Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment, through KSrelief, to advancing this humanitarian journey alongside its international partners.
