The El Centro (Calif.) City Council unanimously approved the transfer of El Centro Regional Medical Center and its related properties and assets to the Imperial Valley Healthcare District on Oct. 13.
The transition is expected to be finalized Oct. 15, according to an Oct. 14 news release from the city.
The process started after Assembly Bill 918 passed in October 2023, which established IVHD to create a unified healthcare system. The district, city and ECRMC have worked through negotiations, financial considerations and legal requirements to move the transfer along.
The council then approved the asset transfer agreement in July 2025, and the agreement was formally executed Aug. 1, 2025. Since then, the parties have worked to finalize the conditions and documents needed to complete the transfer.
IVHD will take on certain financial obligations related to ECRMC under the agreement, including obligations tied to the hospital’s existing financing arrangements.
