Amazon Bee AI wearable is here: What it does and why everyone is talking about it

Amazon has introduced two new personal AI devices under its Bee brand. The new lineup includes Bee Frontier, a wearable that can be worn on the wrist or clipped to clothing, and Bee Eclipse, a compact accessory that attaches magnetically to a smartphone. Both devices are designed to help users remember conversations, organise information and keep track of tasks without having to take notes manually. Bee uses AI to turn conversations into summaries, reminders, action items and personalised insights.

The company is also adding integrations with Alexa+ and Amazon.com, allowing users to retrieve information and receive shopping recommendations based on what they discuss. The company wants Bee to act more like an assistant that remembers useful details from everyday conversations and helps users act on them later.

Amazon Bee Frontier: Features and specifications

Bee Frontier is the more traditional wearable of the two new products. It can be worn around the wrist using a silicone band or attached to clothing with a clip. Amazon says the device is lightweight and designed for extended use, with three colour options: Lavender, Sage and Onyx.

The wearable has dual microphones with noise-filtering technology to help capture relevant information in busy settings, including offices and restaurants. It carries an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance and is claimed to last up to seven days on a single charge. Charging takes place through USB Type-C.

Bee Frontier can help users recall details from meetings, remember plans made during casual conversations and create reminders for everyday errands. For example, it can turn a discussion about a work project into a summary with follow-up tasks, or help users remember a recommendation made by a friend.

Amazon has included a physical microphone control and an indicator light to make it easier to tell when the device is active. Users can also configure it to stop listening automatically after a set period without detecting sound.

Bee Eclipse is a magnetic AI accessory for phones

Bee Eclipse offers an alternative for people who would rather not wear a separate device. The accessory is roughly the size of a credit card and attaches magnetically to the back of a compatible phone.

Like Bee Frontier, it can turn conversations into summaries, reminders and to-do lists. Amazon claims that Bee Eclipse can last for more than 21 days on a single charge, making it the longer-lasting option of the two devices based on the company’s estimates.

The device has a dedicated button to control its operation and an indicator light that signals when it is active.

How Amazon Bee AI works

Bee uses information from conversations and connected applications to generate summaries, identify recurring themes and suggest useful next steps. Users can access this information through the Bee mobile app and a new desktop application.

The service also supports different templates for specific situations, including lectures, brainstorming sessions and care plans. Users can review recent memories, while the AI can identify patterns in their conversations and recommend goals or actions.

Bee can connect with services such as Gmail, Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook. Based on the information discussed, it can help draft follow-up emails, identify action items and prepare calendar invitations. Users can also link Apple HealthKit and their photos to add health-related information and visual context to their personal memories.

Another addition is support for Amazon’s Alexa+ assistant. Once connected, users can ask Alexa for information captured by Bee, including meeting recaps, pending tasks and details they may have forgotten. Integration with Amazon.com can also use information from conversations to suggest relevant products on the shopping website and within Bee’s apps. However, some of these integrations and advanced features require a paid Bee Pro subscription.

Everyone is talking about Amazon Bee privacy

Devices that process conversations raise obvious privacy questions, particularly when they are designed to be carried throughout the day. Amazon says Bee processes audio in real time and deletes it after extracting the relevant information, rather than retaining audio recordings.

According to the company, Bee Private Compute processes conversations in a secure environment that prevents Amazon and other parties from accessing users’ data. Transcripts are encrypted with keys controlled by the user’s device, and they remain private unless the user chooses to share them.

Obviously, users can switch the devices on or off with a button, check the indicator light to see when they are active, and delete their transcripts and summaries. Amazon also says that Echo devices connected to Bee use voice identification to ensure that personalised information is delivered to the recognised user.

Amazon Bee Frontier and Bee Eclipse price and availability

Amazon Bee Frontier is available now through Amazon.com for $74.99, with Onyx, Lavender and Sage colour options. Bee Eclipse is expected to go on sale soon, starting at $99.99, and will be offered in Silver, Midnight, Honey and Blush.

Every Bee customer receives conversation summaries, recaps and a 14-day memory feature at no additional cost. Those who subscribe to Bee Pro get unlimited recent conversation summaries, third-party app integrations, Alexa+ and Amazon.com integrations, suggested to-dos, daily memories, a personal chat assistant, conversation templates and access to the desktop app.

Bee Pro costs $11.99 per month, and new customers receive a 30-day trial. Amazon has not announced India pricing or availability for either device. For now, both products are listed with US pricing, so their availability in India remains unclear.
