A great laptop for the price
At the heart of this device is Apple's new M5 chip, which features a 10-core CPU and an 8-core GPU in the base configuration. Apple claims this chip delivers up to 4x faster AI performance than the previous M4 MacBook Air, which translates to noticeably faster response times in everyday tasks. Whether you're compiling code, rendering video, or just keeping dozens of browser tabs open, the M5 chip ensures the system stays snappy without breaking a sweat.
The 512GB SSD in the M5 model is also reportedly twice as fast in read/write speeds compared to the M4 version, meaning faster app launches and file transfers. You also get 16GB of unified memory as standard. This is the sweet spot for most users, allowing for smooth multitasking without the need to upgrade to the more expensive 24GB model.
Combined with the fanless design, the MacBook Air M5 operates completely silently. There's no fan noise, no heat buildup under light loads, and an incredibly thin profile that makes it easy to slip into any bag. The 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display remains one of the best in its class. It offers a resolution of 2,560-by-1,664 pixels and supports 500 nits of brightness, making it usable in bright environments.
The display also supports P3 wide color, which is essential if you do any photo or video editing. While it lacks the 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate found on Pro models, the 60Hz panel is still sharp, responsive, and vibrant enough for most casual users. Battery life is rated at up to 18 hours of video streaming or wireless web browsing.
In real-world usage, this means you can easily get through a full day of work without needing to carry your charger. The inclusion of Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 ensures that connectivity is future-proof, while the two Thunderbolt 4 ports provide plenty of options for peripherals and external displays.
