The punishment follows the veteran striker's early departure from Portugal's training camp in Copenhagen before their fixture against Denmark.
Why Was Cristiano Ronaldo Suspended?
At the heart of the dispute were reported tensions between Ronaldo and newly appointed head coach Jorge Jesus, centred on disagreements over the forward's position and role within the squad.
The situation reportedly began to deteriorate after Ronaldo was left as an unused substitute during Portugal's match against Norway. According to reports, the Al-Nassr forward felt that Jesus had gone back on earlier assurances about his place in the team's plans. With frustration building, Ronaldo reportedly packed up and left the camp before the Denmark game, setting off the disciplinary process.
Daily Mirror reports that Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day ban and a €255 fine, roughly KSh 38,000.
A provisional suspension had already been issued on October 9, though it remains unclear whether that period will be counted as part of the 30-day ban.
Federation officials have also stopped short of confirming whether the punishment will interfere with Portugal's Nations League commitments, including the match against Denmark scheduled for 14 November.
In the wake of the controversy, Ronaldo issued an apology, acknowledging both his decision to leave his teammates behind and his failure to acknowledge supporters after the Norway fixture.
He also indicated a willingness to accept whatever disciplinary measures came his way.
Despite the drama, Ronaldo remains a towering figure in the history of international football.
The forward holds the record as the most-capped men's international footballer, having pulled on the Portugal shirt 234 times across his career.
Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença has made clear that the organisation is keen to see Ronaldo back in the fold once the matter is put to rest.
Jorge, for his part, has made a strong start as Portugal boss, winning his first four matches since taking charge after the national side's World Cup campaign.
Ronaldo’s sister casts doubt on Portugal return
In other news, Ronaldo’s international future attracted fresh attention after his sister, Elma, expressed doubts about his chances of resolving tensions with coach Jorge.
Her remarks suggest that restoring their relationship could prove difficult, although she did not confirm a permanent fallout.
