One team and four individual runners from Delaware County have punched tickets to the IHSAA cross country state finals.
New Prairie, Manchester, Brownsburg, Franklin Central and Crawford County hosted the state's five regionals on Saturday, Oct. 24. Regional-qualifying teams and individuals from Blackford, Blue River Valley, Cowan, Daleville, Delta, Jay County, Monroe Central, Muncie Burris, Muncie Central, Wapahani, Wes-Del, Winchester Community and Yorktown competed in the Manchester Regional, while those from New Castle and Shenandoah went to the Franklin Central Regional at CERAland Sports Park in Columbus.

For the second season in a row, Yorktown's boys qualified for state as a team with a fourth-place finish in the Manchester Regional. Last year, the Tigers boys became the first team from Delaware County to reach state since 1981 and returned most of the runners who made that happen. The team was led by three top-15 finishers — junior Thomas Loney in 11th (16:00.09), senior Wyatt Turner in 13th (16:01.41) and sophomore Louie Pevler in 15th (16:09.91).
In addition to the boys team, Yorktown also saw freshman Rylie Paskiewicz qualify as an individual in the girls race. Paskiewicz placed eighth overall with a time of 18:19.51 and claimed the third of 15 individual state qualifier spots.
Delta produced two state qualifiers — one boy and one girl. Junior Shiloh Bunch placed 13th overall in the girls race with a time of 18:32.28 and claimed the sixth individual qualifier spot, while senior Peyton Engle placed 23rd overall in the boys race with a time of 16:23.43 to claim the seventh individual qualifier spot. Engle secured the second state finals appearance of his career after qualifying last season as well.
Daleville sophomore Colin Elam was the area's final state qualifier. He placed 32nd overall in the boys race at Manchester with a time of 16:35.28, good enough for the 12th qualifying spot.
The IHSAA cross country state finals will be held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute on Saturday, Oct. 31. The girls will race at noon ET, and the boys will follow at 1 p.m. ET.
