Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reappointed the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff and Chief Press Secretary as he begins his second four-year term in office.
The governor announced the appointments on Friday night, hours after his inauguration for another term following his re-election in the June 20 governorship election.
The appointments, according to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode, took immediate effect.
The statement said Oyebanji had approved the retention of Prof. Habibat Adubiaro as Secretary to the State Government, Oyeniyi Adebayo as Chief of Staff to the Governor and Oyebode as Chief Press Secretary.
The three officials served in the same positions throughout the governor’s first term, making their reappointment a continuation of the existing leadership structure within his immediate administrative team.
Announcing the appointments, Oyebode said the governor approved the decisions following his inauguration for a second term, signalling the commencement of administrative activities under the new mandate.
Continuity in government
The reappointments came five days after the dissolution of the Ekiti State Executive Council on October 12, a move that formed part of the administrative process of concluding Oyebanji’s first term.
The dissolution preceded the governor’s inauguration for another four years, following his victory in the June 20 governorship election.
By retaining the three principal aides, Oyebanji has maintained key members of his previous administration in positions central to government coordination, executive administration and public communication.
The Secretary to the State Government is responsible for coordinating government business, facilitating the implementation of executive decisions and ensuring effective communication among government ministries, departments and agencies.
The Chief of Staff supports the governor in coordinating official activities, managing administrative responsibilities and facilitating the smooth operation of the governor’s office.
Similarly, the Chief Press Secretary serves as the principal media liaison for the governor, communicating official policies, programmes, decisions and activities to the public through the media.
Their retention is expected to provide continuity in the operations of the governor’s office as the administration begins its second term.
Next phase of administration
The appointments represent an early administrative decision by Oyebanji following his inauguration, while attention is expected to turn to the composition of the state executive council and other government appointments.
The dissolution of the previous executive council on October 12 had marked the end of the first-term cabinet arrangement, creating room for the governor to make decisions on the composition of his administration for the new term.
However, the statement announcing the three reappointments did not provide details of further appointments or indicate when the governor would announce members of his new executive council.
Oyebanji’s second term follows his re-election in the June 20 governorship poll, which secured him another four years to continue implementing his administration’s policies and development agenda in Ekiti State.
The governor is expected to continue working with his retained aides as his administration settles into the new term and makes further decisions on the structure and personnel of the state government.
