Colombo, Oct. 16 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lankan businessman Dudley Sirisena has offered to cover all expenses involved in bringing specialist medical teams from Thailand and providing the necessary medicines to treat the ailing wild tusker Kavantissa.
In a public appeal, Sirisena called on the authorities to take all possible measures to save the elephant, stressing that the Wildlife Department and veterinary teams currently attending to the animal might require additional specialist assistance.
Sirisena said he is prepared to bear the full cost of bringing medical specialists from Thailand, as well as supplying all medicines required for Kavantissa’s treatment.
He also urged that the offer be brought to the attention of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Minister of Wildlife and other relevant authorities, requesting their intervention to facilitate the necessary arrangements.
The appeal comes amid growing concern over Kavantissa’s health. The tusker has reportedly been suffering from diarrhoea after previously receiving treatment for an infected wound on one of its limbs.
The offer is aimed at ensuring that the elephant receives any additional medical care required to improve its condition and increase its chances of survival.
