Most AI assistants sit around waiting for you to say something. Mistlabs is betting $26 million that the next generation should already be paying attention.
The San Francisco company closed a Pre-A funding round announced on October 5, 2026, to expand Ambi, its ambient intelligence platform. The money will push Ambi onto iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch, and fund a future standalone AI wearable.
What Mistlabs is building
Luminous Ventures led the round, with Huaqin Technology joining as co-lead. Mistlabs says the capital is earmarked for two things: scaling the software across Apple hardware and developing its own dedicated device.
Ambi is designed to run continuously across a user’s Apple devices. That includes iPhones, Apple Watches, Macs, and MacBooks.
The core idea is ambient capture. Rather than responding to a prompt, the app listens in the background and picks up context from conversations and tasks as they happen.

CEO Peter Mo has framed Ambi’s pitch around being proactive. According to Mo, the platform captures key context from user interactions and lets multiple Ambi agents coordinate with each other, all without waiting for an explicit command.
The beta numbers
Before raising this round, Mistlabs ran a private beta that wrapped up in August 2026. The company reports a Day 7 retention rate of 37.8% from that program.
For the uninitiated, Day 7 retention measures how many users are still coming back a week after they first try a product. It is one of the earliest signals a startup gets about whether people actually want what it built, or just downloaded it out of curiosity.
Mistlabs is preparing to open Ambi to the public around mid-October 2026. So the gap between funding announcement and wider launch is a matter of weeks.
Privacy is the whole ballgame
Mistlabs appears aware of this. The company is leaning heavily on privacy and user-controlled processing, positioning Ambi so that sensitive material from conversations and tasks stays secure.
Memory handling is described as user-controlled. In practice, the pitch is that you decide what Ambi keeps and what it forgets, rather than handing everything to a black box.
The hardware question
The software expansion is the near-term story. The longer-term ambition is a standalone AI wearable.
Mistlabs has not yet shared hardware specifications or a timeline for that device. For now, it exists as a stated goal funded in part by this round.
It also means Ambi’s first public chapter runs entirely on Apple’s turf. Building on iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch gives instant reach to a large installed base, but it also ties the product’s capabilities to whatever Apple’s platforms allow third-party apps to do in the background.
