GS Caltex showcased a range of artificial intelligence-driven workplace innovations, from employee training tools to robotics and energy-saving initiatives, at its annual Deep Transformation Day held Thursday at GS Tower in southern Seoul.
The fourth edition of the event, attended by GS Caltex Vice Chairman and CEO Hur Sae-hong and other executives and employees, featured 15 exhibition booths highlighting projects developed by staff to improve productivity and transform business operations.
Among the initiatives were AI-powered training tutors using the Socratic method of questioning, applications of physical AI technologies such as drones, robots and smart helmets, and a multi-agent AI system designed to automate research report writing.
The company also presented energy-saving projects at its Yeosu refinery, efforts to optimize catalyst procurement through data-driven decision-making and plans to overhaul its enterprise resource planning system.
Other projects included a co-processing system for biofuel production, while outside experts discussed industrial AI, humanoid robots and changes in the global business environment.
One highlight was the development of AI training tools inspired by digital and AI transformation technologies that Hur had shared internally.
Employees adapted the concepts into several applications, including AiQ+, which integrates 12 job training courses in the company's Mobility & Marketing division, a Socratic AI tutor for junior production engineers and a finance training assistant.
Under the theme "We," the event emphasized employee-led innovation and continuous improvement.
"Each employee's challenges and initiatives come together to shape the company's innovation and future," Hur said. "When changes made by individuals are connected and spread across the organization, they can drive GS Caltex's growth."
GS Group Chairman Huh Tae-soo, who also attended the event, stressed the need to redesign business processes around digital technologies rather than simply adding digital tools to existing operations.
"We need to shift our perspective from applying digital technology to existing tasks to designing work and processes around digital technology from the outset," Huh said.
He urged employees to use digital tools to improve collaboration, respond to change and deliver stronger business results.
