Scotland Police: Nationalities Eligible to Apply
Citizens of countries within the European Economic Area (EEA) may be eligible to apply to join Police Scotland, provided they meet the other recruitment requirements.
The EEA includes all European Union (EU) member states, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The eligible EU countries are:
- Austria
- Belgium
- Bulgaria
- Croatia
- Cyprus
- Czechia
- Denmark
- Estonia
- Finland
- France
- Germany
- Greece
- Hungary
- Ireland
- Italy
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Luxembourg
- Malta
- The Netherlands
- Poland
- Portugal
- Romania
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- Spain
- Sweden
The other EEA countries are Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
Applicants who are neither UK nor EEA nationals face additional immigration requirements. According to the Police Scotland recruitment website:
"Applicants who are not UK or EEA nationals must hold indefinite leave to remain or equivalent status at the point of application: Time limited visas, even with current right to work, do not meet this legal requirement."
This means that applicants from outside the UK and EEA must have indefinite leave to remain or an equivalent immigration status when applying. Holding a time-limited visa does not satisfy this requirement, even if it currently permits the holder to work in the UK.
Prospective applicants should review the official Police Scotland recruitment website to confirm the latest eligibility rules.
Starting Salary for Police Scotland Officers
For applicants who meet the recruitment requirements, Police Scotland advertises a starting salary of £34,001 per year (approximately KSh 5.7 million annually), based on an indicative exchange rate of £1 to KSh 168. The website confirms:
The salary may attract interest from Kenyans and other foreign nationals exploring employment opportunities abroad as they seek better career prospects and international work experience.
