KUALA LUMPUR: KFC Malaysia has contributed 20,000 face masks to vulnerable and underserved communities across the Klang Valley amid recent air quality concerns, reaffirming its commitment to community well-being.
QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd said in a statement that the initiative reflected the company’s ongoing efforts to create meaningful social impact while addressing the immediate needs of communities facing daily challenges.
The contribution was a collaborative effort between KFC Malaysia and its Harvest Programme partners, Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) and The Lost Food Project (TLFP), two long-standing partners with extensive networks serving underserved and at-risk groups.
The partnerships aim to ensure that essential assistance reaches those most in need while supporting KFC Malaysia’s efforts to build stronger, healthier and more resilient communities.
QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd Head of Governance Sahada Salihin said the company’s responsibility extended beyond serving meals to supporting communities and addressing their daily challenges.
“The contribution of 20,000 face masks is a simple yet meaningful way to extend care and protection to vulnerable communities. By working closely with our long-standing partners, Kechara Soup Kitchen and The Lost Food Project, we can ensure that assistance reaches those who need it most,” she said in the same statement.
She added that the initiative also complemented the KFC Harvest Programme, which supports communities through food redistribution while minimising waste.
“Together with our partners, we hope to continue creating a meaningful and lasting impact for the communities we serve,” she added.
A symbolic handover ceremony was held at Menara QSR, where representatives from both non-governmental organisations (NGOs) received the face masks on behalf of the communities they serve. The ceremony marked the launch of a two-phase outreach initiative to provide additional care and protection to vulnerable individuals, including the homeless and families in need.
In the first phase, KSK and TLFP will distribute the face masks to beneficiaries through their outreach networks.
As part of the initiative, KFC Malaysia representatives joined KSK and TLFP volunteers to distribute face masks and KFC meal packs to members of the homeless community at Pusat Khidmat Gelandangan Medan Tuanku here today.
“Together, KSK and TLFP reach nearly 8,000 beneficiaries across the Klang Valley, including residents of charity homes and People’s Housing Project (PPR) communities, with their impact extending nationwide through community outreach efforts,” the statement added.
The second phase of the initiative will be incorporated into upcoming activities under the KFC Harvest Programme, the quick-service restaurant chain’s flagship food rescue initiative.
Through future Harvest Programme distributions, beneficiaries at participating charity homes and community centres will receive face masks and freshly prepared KFC meals, alongside donations of frozen chicken.
Introduced locally in 2019, the KFC Harvest Programme rescues surplus food from participating restaurants and redistributes it through NGO partners to underserved communities and charity homes, helping to reduce food waste while enhancing food security.
Since its inception, the programme has expanded to include 170 KFC restaurants nationwide and has redistributed more than 61,000 kilogrammes of surplus food, benefiting thousands of individuals and families across Malaysia.
