Euphoria actor Hunter Schafer has shared that she underwent gender-affirming surgery.
Speaking to Elle magazine, she confirmed having lower body surgery – which alters a person’s genitals to align with their gender identity – last December.
She said: "Maybe it’s a good thing to share, for the tension I was talking about between those two worlds (reality and ideology).
"I just had bottom surgery in December, which was amazing, and I love it so much."

She continued: “Like I said, for a long time I’ve embraced the gender-expansive part of myself, and I really wanted to try to make that previous body work, because I thought there was something really cool and badass about it.”
However, she said medically transitioning was ultimately right for her, but every trans person is different.
While she recovered from the surgery she rented a big apartment and had friends and family come to visit, while she was forced to lie down.
She said: “I think my limit was 150 steps per day, which is nothing.”
Schafer said she has changed dramatically since she was first cast in Euphoria, which first aired in 2019.

Hunter Schafer once dated her Euphoria co-star Dominic Fike (Doug Peters/PA)
She said she was “just a baby”, adding: “I was a different person in a lot of ways. I was really introverted and not set on performing in front of people at all. There was this shell that was there that’s not with me any more.”
She has previously dated Spanish pop star Rosalia and her Euphoria co-star Dominic Fike, but notes: “I haven’t had a relationship that’s been longer than two years, and I’ve heard the two-year mark is when it gets more like a partnership rather than some passionate whatever-it-is. Something that feels more sacred and intentional.”
“I first started to feel beautiful in my twenties. Everyone deals with insecurities and it’s something I still deal with today,” she said.
“But I’m in my mid-twenties now and I feel like I’ve figured it out on a level that I hadn’t before. Adolescence is about experimenting and trying on different faces. But I think I’ve really come into myself in a way that I feel confident and comfortable about.”
