A total of 828 applications (nearly 22%) of the 3,774 pending applications related to e-khata were disposed of during the four-day special drive held by the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) from October 14 to 17. The MCC has proposed to hold another special drive shortly to clear the remaining applications.
Due to deputation of officials for Special Intensive Revision exercise, issuing e-khatas and birth and death certificates were among the works of MCC that had been affected. Following return of officials on October 11, MCC Commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey decided to hold separate special drives between October 14 and 17 to clear pending applications related to e-khata and of birth and death certificates.
Mr. Pandey said Revenue Inspectors, Assistant Revenue Officers, three Revenue Officers and other personnel from the MCC Revenue section worked between 10 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on each day during the period to clear pending applications.
As per the report submitted by MCC Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) to Mr. Pandey, 3,436 e-khata applications were pending at the start of the drive on October 14. As many as 338 new applications were added during period of the drive, taking the total pendency to 3,774. Of this, 828 were cleared and 2,946 applications were pending. A total of 70,533 e-khata applications have been cleared so far, the official stated.
Mr. Pandey said the State government has granted the authority to Revenue Inspectors to carry out corrections in the e-Khata, which was earlier vested with Revenue Officers. Now, Revenue Inspectors carry out the correction and the Revenue Officer allows it after review.
The MCC Commissioner said the Corporation has proposed for changes in the software to allow filing of application only after entry of correct details. “Presently with incorrect details, officials take a minimum of 30 minutes to clear one application,” Mr. Pandey said and added that the proposed change is pending approval of the government.
