Kathmandu, October 14
Giri Bahadur Sunar, Nepal’s proposed resident ambassador to Saudi Arabia, has pledged to organise regular mobile consular camps in the eastern, southern and northern regions of Saudi Arabia.
He made the commitment during his parliamentary hearing. As part of efforts to digitise consular services, he said he would take initiatives to operate regular mobile consular camps in those regions.
He also outlined plans to introduce a fully online service system, including online tokens, payments and mandatory e-passport appointments, as well as mobile passport renewal based on the national identity card.
According to Sunar, between 400,000 and 500,000 Nepalis currently live in Saudi Arabia. More than 1.3 million labour approvals have been issued over the past decade, of which 67 per cent were for unskilled workers, 28 per cent for semi-skilled and skilled workers, and 5 per cent for highly skilled workers.
