By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Oct. 14: The Marin Literature Society has opened a new chapter of creativity in Marin, Sindhuli. It organised a 'Poetry Writing Workshop and Poetry Festival' in Marin on Monday, which saw enthusiastic participation from young poets from all over the country and local students.
The event witnessed a notable presence of figures from various fields connected to literature, society, and creativity. The participation of writers Swapnil Smriti from Pachthar and Avaya Shrestha from Bhaktapur, Ganesh Shraman from Chitwan, DB Bartaula and Kishan Paudel from Hetauda expanded Marin's literary stage beyond the district's borders.
Local participants from Sindhuli, including Amala Adhikari, Lokendra Dahere, Khadanand Timalsina, Amrit Bhimaneli, Dhrubachandra Khadka, and Maiya Lamichhane, recited poems, gazals, and muktaks, sharing their experiences, thoughts, and sensitivities with the audience. Compositions spanning diverse emotional landscapes transformed the gathering from a mere formal ceremony into an interactive dialogue between words and feelings, creators and listeners, and the local environment and broader social reality.
As the lines of poetry echoed with life's ups and downs, various facets of society, and the voices of human sensibility, the atmosphere in Marin vibrated with creative energy. The rhythms of gazals and the dense expressions of muktaks further enlivened the appeal of various literary genres.
A distinctive aspect of the programme was that it was not limited to poetry recitation alone, but also placed significant emphasis on the practice of poetry writing. Avaya Shrestha gave a keynote presentation on poetry writing in which students and interested persons participated. Embracing these creative dimensions, the workshop provided an opportunity to generate a literary consciousness in the new generation and help local talents discover their creative potential. Local students Nisha Magar, Sarita Shrestha and others presented their vibrant poems.
The event was attended by Narayan Pyakurel, Treasurer of Kamala Community Library; Keshab Kumar Phuyal, President of Budhyauli Literature Society Tirtha Yatri, President of Pallavi Gyan Manch and local literary figures Bhojraj Dhakal, Gopal Budhathoki, and Kajiman Tamang, among others.
At the event chaired by Nirupam Shrestha, President of the Marin Literature Society, the event featured remarks from Bimarsa Moktan 'Prakhyat,' Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, who expressed the local government's commitment to the development of local literature and art.
"This will help spread not only local literature and art, but also Marin's identity on a national level," he stated.
Bimala Majhi, Vice-Chairperson of the Rural Municipality; Rijesh Ubarkoti, Chief Administrative Officer; Society member Rupak Jamara, Chaman Shayar, Mandhwoj Blon among others spoke on role of local government in developing art and literature.
