A jersey worn by Michael Jordan during his final championship run has sold for $14 million (about 18.7 billion won), the highest price ever paid for basketball memorabilia.
The Chicago Bulls jersey Jordan wore in the 1998 NBA Finals was sold at auction to Ron Furman, a real estate investor in Miami, The Associated Press reported on the 12th. The news agency said it was the highest amount ever recorded in the basketball memorabilia market.
The jersey was worn in Game 2 of the Finals, played on June 5, 1998, and carries Jordan's autograph. Chicago beat the Utah Jazz in that game to even the series at 1-1, then closed it out 4-2 to complete its second three-peat of the 1990s.
Jerseys from the 1998 Finals have consistently commanded high prices among collectors because they come from Jordan's last season in a Bulls uniform. The Game 1 jersey fetched $10.1 million at auction in 2022, and the Game 3 jersey sold for $12.3 million last month.
Across all sports, the most expensive game-worn jersey remains the one belonging to New York Yankees great Babe Ruth, which sold for $24.12 million in 2024. Ruth wore it when he hit his so-called "called shot" in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series, an away game against the Chicago Cubs.
