The Achilles tendon injury that prevented Mike Evans from practicing during the week didn't allow the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver to finish the first half Monday night against the Commanders.
Evans, 33, was slow to get up after catching a 16-yard slant with 1:03 left before halftime. After he stood up, Evans began walking to the sideline before pivoting and walking to the locker room with members of the medical staff. Television cameras captured Evans limping badly, favoring his right leg, after he reached the locker room tunnel.
Evans is questionable to return in the second half, per a press box announcement. He was not observed on the sideline at the start of the second half.
Evans was playing his third straight game with two broken ribs, but he appeared on the injury report last week with a new Achilles injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated it was a minor issue, terming it "just some Achilles soreness," but Evans sat out all three practices and was listed as questionable for Monday's game.
Before he exited, Evans continued his stellar debut season with the 49ers. The six-time Pro Bowl selection had three catches for 94 yards, including a 54-yard catch-and-run to set up the 49ers' second touchdown that provided a 13-3 lead in the first quarter. Evans has 27 catches for 420 yards and three touchdowns in six games this season.
Without Evans, the 49ers have four available wide receivers: Jordan Watkins, Jacob Cowing, Brandin Cooks and Malik Turner, who was elevated from the practice squad Monday. Deebo Samuel (hamstring) is expected to miss multiple games after he was injured in a win against the Seahawks on Oct. 11. Demarcus Robinson (ankle) and De'Zhaun Stribling (ankle) are on injured reserve.
