Bakang takes DCEC prosecutorial powers dispute to High Court
Bakang Seretse and others have escalated their challenge to the prosecutorial powers of the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC). The four have filed an appeal against a ruling by Broadhurst Regional Magistrate Mareledi Dipate that allowed DCEC officers to continue prosecuting the National Petroleum Fund case.
The appeal follows Dipate’s June 30 ruling dismissing an application that sought to halt the prosecution on the grounds that the DCEC officers leading the case lacked lawful authority to institute and conduct criminal proceedings. Seretse and others are facing 63 counts, including stealing by agent, money laundering, forgery of an official document and conspiracy to defraud government.
