Apple is bringing Apple Pencil support to its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, through the upcoming iOS 27.2 update. The feature was promised when the device was unveiled in September. However, buyers may not have to wait long to use it.
According to a tipster on X, Apple Pencil support is included in the iOS 27.2 release candidate released on Monday. The feature is reportedly working as expected. Apple is expected to release iOS 27.2 on or around Monday, October 26.
The timing means customers who secured a launch-day pre-order for the iPhone Duo could access the feature within days. The foldable is scheduled to go on sale this Friday, bringing stylus support shortly after its market debut.
However, Apple Pencil compatibility comes with one limitation. The iPhone Duo supports only the Apple Pencil (USB-C), meaning the Apple Pencil Pro and older models will not work with the device. Customers who do not already own the compatible stylus will need to buy one separately. Apple sells the USB-C Apple Pencil for $79 through its US store. According to the company, users will be able to take notes, sketch, and mark up documents on either of the Duo’s displays.
iPhone Duo Could Get Reachability Later This Year
Apple is also reportedly planning to bring Reachability to the iPhone Duo later this year. The feature is already available on other iPhones, where it moves the upper portion of the interface downward. This makes controls easier to reach when using a phone with one hand.
On the iPhone Duo, reachability is expected to work differently because of the foldable’s larger display. Users could bring the left or right edge of the screen within reach with a tap. However, Apple has not confirmed which iOS version will introduce the feature.
The reported changes suggest Apple is working to make its foldable easier to use with one hand. While Apple Pencil support is expected with iOS 27.2, reachability may arrive in a later update.
