On Oct. 17 at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a report that a dirt bike had struck a youth cyclist in the parking lot at the mall.
“The biker came from behind a shed, struck the youth, and left the area without stopping, going west down St Mary’s St. and Pleasant St.,” reads a media release. “The youth reported minor injuries and had significant damage to their bicycle.”
The RCMP said the dirt bike is a red and white Honda. The driver was described as wearing green and blue clothing and a dark-coloured helmet.
The RCMP initially released a photo of a person riding a dirt bike with the media release, referring to the rider as a person of interest. A few hours later the RCMP recalled that photo, saying through their investigation the RCMP had confirmed that the person in the photograph was not associated with the alleged hit and run.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen the collision, who has dashcam footage, or who can identify the dirt bike operator to call Digby RCMP at 902-245-2579.
To remain anonymous, people can call Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers, toll-free at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submit a secure web tip on the Crime Stoppers website or use the P3 Tips app.
