As the Washington Commanders suffered a 23-17 loss against the San Francisco 49ers in their Week 6 NFL regular season matchup at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Monday, their star wide receiver Terry McLaurin was sidelined towards the tail end of the first quarter as he sustained a left knee injury while running a route.
However, it seems like the wideout will now be sidelined for the rest of the 2026 NFL season. ESPN NFL insider Ian Rapoport on Tuesday revealed that McLaurin has a torn patellar tendon, with the injury marking the wide receiver’s end to the season.
While the exact timeline of his return to the field remains unknown, the brutal nature of the injury means that his return could take some time. Reacting to the news on X, NFL fans extended their condolences to McLaurin and the franchise while also praying for the wideout’s speedy recovery.
“This like a 2 year injury man. It’s what a ACL was 20 years ago,” a fan wrote.
With the absence of Terry McLaurin, the Washington Commanders (1-4-1), who languish at the bottom of the NFC East, will next take the field in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles (2-4) on Nov. 1.
How Has Terry McLaurin Fared In The NFL?
Coming off a successful collegiate career with the Ohio State Buckeyes, wide receiver Terry McLaurin was selected by the Washington Commanders in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft as the 76th pick.
Since then, the wideout has been an important cog in the Commanders’ setup, giving consistent play season after season. In 112 games for the franchise, McLaurin has 513 receptions for 7,191 receiving yards and 42 touchdowns, averaging 14 yards per reception.
In the five games this season, McLaurin garnered 15 receptions for 230 yards and one touchdown before suffering a season-ending knee injury against the 49ers on Monday.
While the return timeline for McLaurin is still indefinite, the loss has left a big void in Redskins coach Dan Quinn’s offensive setup.
