Colombo, Oct. 23 (Daily Mirror) - Former Minister and Badulla District MP Chamara Sampath and his former secretary were today remanded until November 6 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama over allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 8.4 million from three phosphate-importing companies.
The order was issued after the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) made submissions when the case was taken up before the court today.
The Bribery Commission informed the court that Chamara Sampath had allegedly accepted bribes in exchange for issuing import licences to three companies without following the proper procedures during his tenure as State Minister of Primary Industries from September 8, 2022, to September 23, 2024.
The Commission further informed the court that Sampath had been named as the third suspect in the case.
