The Pakistan Army on Tuesday successfully test-launched the Fatah-2 extended range (ER), a hypersonic ballistic missile, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced. The weapon system is equipped with advanced navigation and state-of-the-art avionics.
It is capable of engaging targets with high precision and defeating enemy missile defence systems because of its unique trajectory and manoeuvrability. The ISPR added that the extended range of the missile will further enhance the army’s reach and its ability to engage deep targets.
The commander of the Army Rocket Force Command (ARFC), senior Pakistan Army officers, scientists and engineers witnessed the launch. The ARFC commander appreciated the dedication and technical prowess of the scientists and engineers involved.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, along with the service chiefs, congratulated the scientists and engineers on the successful test.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also congratulated the nation, saying the Pakistan Army’s scientists and engineers had achieved a commendable feat. He described the test as a significant development in the defence sector.
Last week, the army test-launched an indigenously developed extended version of the Fatah-4 ground-launched cruise missile. The ISPR said the weapon system was equipped with advanced avionics and navigational aids and could engage targets at extended ranges with high precision and lethality.
The test also validated additional technical parameters of various sub-systems incorporated to improve accuracy and survivability.
In September 2025, the army conducted a training launch of the newly developed Fatah-4 at a range of 750 kilometres. The missile is designed to evade enemy missile defence systems through its terrain-hugging capability, ensuring high precision against targets.
