A red alert has been issued in various parts of four regions of Saudi Arabia due to the threat of severe thunderstorms and flash floods. The country’s National Center of Meteorology (NCM) announced this information on Sunday (October 18), according to Gulf News.
According to the NCM bulletin, moderate to heavy thunderstorms are forecast for some areas in the Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah regions. This could be accompanied by hail and strong gusty winds, potentially leading to dust and sandstorms.
The agency’s latest forecast indicates that the risk of flash floods due to heavy rainfall has significantly increased in various areas of these four regions because of the unstable weather conditions.
Additionally, there is a possibility of fog in coastal areas of the Eastern Province, including parts of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah, which could significantly reduce visibility.
Meanwhile, high temperatures are forecast for various cities in Saudi Arabia. Dammam is expected to record a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius. This is followed by Makkah (39 degrees Celsius), Riyadh and Buraidah (both at 38 degrees Celsius).
Madinah could see temperatures reach up to 37 degrees Celsius, while Jeddah and Jazan might experience 36 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, Ha’il is expected to record 33 degrees, Arar, Sakaka, and Najran 32 degrees, and Tabuk 28 degrees Celsius.
On the other hand, comparatively cooler weather may prevail in the mountainous regions of the Southwest. Temperatures in Abha could be 15 degrees Celsius, and in Al-Baha, 24 degrees Celsius.
Humidity levels, or the amount of water vapor in the air, could rise to a maximum of 90 percent in Abha, Al-Baha, and Jazan. Jeddah and Dammam might experience 85 percent humidity, and Makkah up to 80 percent.
Among other regions of the country, Tabuk, Arar, and Sakaka are forecast to have 70 percent humidity, Madinah and Ha’il 55 percent, Riyadh and Najran 35 percent, and Buraidah 30 percent.
