Autumn rains brought by a typhoon have forced Game 1 of the playoff series between the Samsung Lions and the KIA Tigers to be postponed by a day.
The Korea Baseball Organization said on the 25th that Game 1 of the 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO playoffs, a best-of-five series, had been called off because of rain. The game had been scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu. It marks the first postseason game rained out this season and the 26th rainout in the history of the Korean postseason.
The cancellation was caused by Typhoon Champi. Rain began falling in Daegu the previous day and continued as a heavy downpour through the morning. With the Korea Meteorological Administration forecasting an additional 20 to 60 millimeters of rain for Daegu and the southern part of North Gyeongsang Province, the KBO made the final decision to postpone about one hour and 45 minutes before the scheduled first pitch.
"It has been raining since Friday, and rain is forecast through this evening," the KBO said in explaining the decision. "Even if the rain stops, it takes about an hour to prepare the field, and we were concerned that if it rains again after the tarps are removed, it would affect the next day's game as well."
The postponement forces changes to the rest of the playoff schedule. Game 1 will now be played at the same venue at 6:30 p.m. on the 26th. Game 2 moves to the 27th, and after the originally scheduled off day on the 28th, Games 3 and 4 at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field will each be pushed back by one day.
