Cowboys’ Jerry Jones hints at trade deadline move coming amid struggling NFC East originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
With the NFC East so wide open, the Dallas Cowboys have no reason not to go all out.
That isn't to say there will be a ton of players available for the Cowboys to pursue, especially if they have to give up big-time draft assets for them, but there's reason to believe Dallas can be a much better team after the trade deadline than it is now.
The NFC East currently sees the New York Giants in first place at 3-2-1, and the Philadelphia Eagles at 2-4 in second place.
The Eagles have also lost four straight games and are dealing with an injury to quarterback Jalen Hurts, who is expected to miss the rest of the season as he deals with blood clots.
There's an argument to be made that if the Cowboys make the necessary moves at this year's deadline, they'll have a very good opportunity to win the division, and according to Jerry Jones, if he thinks a move or two can help the team at this year's deadline, he's willing to explore it.
“I’ll be real clear, I could see being active at the trade deadline if it was something that could help the team this year,” Jones said, per Albert Breer.
The question now is what Jones wants to target, as there's an argument for both sides of the ball.
The Cowboys' defense doesn't look great, so bringing in a player or two to improve that side of the ball would be a wise decision. Offensively, the Cowboys can improve in some areas, but the defense should be the bigger focus right now.
