The Central Equatoria State government has directed county and city authorities to assess the safety risks of residential buildings constructed around Korok Hill, commonly known as Jebel Kujur, in Juba.
The assessment will also examine the use of uncertified electrical connections in residential areas as part of efforts to reduce fire outbreaks in neighbourhoods and markets.
The directive was issued during the weekly State Security Committee meeting held earlier this week under the chairmanship of Caretaker Governor Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani.
The government said the exercise is intended to identify potential safety risks and recommend measures to protect residents and property.
As a temporary measure, the Caretaker Mayor of Juba City Council and the Caretaker Commissioner of Juba County have also been directed to designate specific locations for weekly markets.
The move aims to prevent traders from selling goods along roadsides and sidewalks, where their activities can pose safety risks and obstruct the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
Korok Hill, locally known as Jebel Kujur, is a prominent 684-meter-high mountain near the Rock City residential area in Juba.
