Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan made the sudden move back to the United Kingdom in late August, breaking the internet and sending fans into circles of speculation about how this would affect the British monarchy and the couple’s relationship with the royals. And while Harry has stepped out solo several times since their return to England, today, he made his first joint engagement with with Meghan—and it was spectacular.
The duchess had previously been lying low in the U.K., spending time with her children, as well as close friends and collaborators (like Malala and Ellen DeGeneres), without calling attention to herself. But now, she’s back in the spotlight, and the locals seem to be welcoming her with open arms.
Photos from today show the duke and duchess visiting local charities in Nottingham—the location of their very first joint public appearance after announcing their engagement in December 2017. Meghan and Harry reconnected with the Community Recording Studio (a youth and community charity that the couple regularly supports) and Himmah Hub (a food-poverty action group), and Epic Partners (which provides mentoring and sports programs for young people).
Outside of their first stop, the couple was greeted by fans, some who presented Meghan with bouquets of flowers and carried balloons. “It’s great to be back,” the duchess told one well-wisher.
For the meaningful day—marking their return to the country after leaving their senior royal roles in 2020—Meghan dressed, appropriately, in head-to-toe British designers. Her burgundy coat and matching turtleneck were courtesy of luxury brand Joseph, while her coordinating midi skirt was pulled from the Fold London, and her pumps from Jennifer Chamandi. Harry, meanwhile, was classic in a gray blazer, white button-down, blue jeans, and black suede shoes.
