Every higher education provider in Australia has a responsibility to offer meaningful choices while ensuring that quality remains at the centre of every new opportunity.
At ASA Institute of Higher Education, that thinking has guided two important developments: our expansion into Hobart and Canberra, alongside our established Sydney campus, and TEQSA’s approval for transnational education. Together, these milestones mark an exciting new chapter in our development and create opportunities to reach students in different ways.
Our new locations in regional settings of Australia reflect a straightforward belief: students should have options that suit their individual goals and circumstances. Sydney continues to offer the energy and connections of a major international city. Hobart and Canberra provide different environments, broadening the choices available to students considering an Australian higher education experience.
Hobart offers a distinctive setting, with its regional, cultural life and close connection to Tasmania’s natural environment. Canberra, as Australia’s capital, offers proximity to national institutions and a city shaped by education, public service and innovation. Both locations bring something valuable to our growing campus community.
However, opening a campus involves much more than securing a location. It requires thoughtful preparation, capable staff and systems that support students throughout their studies. Our aim is for students across all three cities to experience a consistent commitment to academic standards, accessible support and a welcoming learning environment.
Alongside this campus expansion, TEQSA’s approval for transnational education opens the door for ASA to develop offshore education partnerships. This represents an important opportunity to extend access to Australian Higher Education through collaboration with institutions overseas.
For many students, travelling abroad for an entire qualification is difficult. Family responsibilities, employment and financial circumstances can influence whether international study is possible. TNE offers another approach, allowing education to reach students through delivery arrangements beyond the provider’s home country.
Our new campuses and TNE approval are connected by a common purpose: widening access while growing responsibly in today’s dynamic environment
For ASA, the appeal also lies in the partnerships themselves. Working with overseas institutions creates opportunities to exchange ideas and resources as well as to understand different educational contexts and develop an approach that responds to local needs while maintaining the academic expectations of an Australian qualification.
These relationships need time and care. Clear responsibilities, sound governance and effective oversight are essential. The approval is a significant achievement, but the next stage is equally important: translating that opportunity into well planned partnerships and a positive experience for students.
One TNE initiative we have been developing began through connections made at The PIE Live in 2024. Its progress has reinforced the value of sustained engagement. A conversation at an industry event can become something substantial when both parties invest in understanding each other and building a shared direction.
Our new campuses and TNE approval are connected by a common purpose: widening access while growing responsibly in today’s dynamic environment. They allow us to think beyond one city and one model of international education.
As ASA enters this next chapter, we are focused on what these developments can deliver for students and partners. Growth should create greater choice, stronger relationships and worthwhile learning opportunities. That is the ambition behind our expansion, and the measure by which we want its success to be judged in the years ahead, as each new opportunity becomes part of the student experience.
