With cheers from fans echoing all the way to Dr. M.L.K. Jr. Drive and Juneau Street in Milwaukee, fans gathered in the Deer District Oct. 23 to watch the Milwaukee Brewers' return to the World Series after 44 years, following the Milwaukee Bucks' home opener.
The day's celebrations began at 3 p.m. with the Bucks' home opener against the Chicago Bulls. The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m., but the Bucks moved the tip-off time to 3 p.m. on Oct. 16 to accommodate the Brewers' first World Series appearance since 1982.
Despite the Bucks losing their home opener to the Bulls, 132-125, Bucks fans united with Brewers fans ‒ and even a few Bulls fans ‒ outside Fiserv Forum to watch the Brewers take on the Tampa Bay Rays on a giant screen in the middle of the Deer District.
The free outdoor watch party, hosted by Deer District Business Improvement District 53, took place at The Deer Garden.
At least 110 fans gathered around the giant screen, while at least 150 more people opted to watch the game inside the Deer District's bars and restaurants rather than brave the crisp 57-degree weather.
Brewers gear dominated the crowd, with fans sporting jerseys, hats and other team apparel as they gathered to cheer on Milwaukee.
Despite a few technical difficulties with the Jumbotron fading in and out, drawing boos from the crowd, fans continued cheering as they watched a clip of Jacob Misiorowski's now-infamous Pokémon interview, Fox commentators' updated World Series predictions, and Misiorowski stepping up to the mound to throw his historic first pitch, which at 103.5 mph was the fastest-ever pitch thrown in the World Series since pitch tracking began in 2008.
More Brewers World Series watch parties planned in Deer District
The Deer District will continue hosting free outdoor watch parties for the Brewers' upcoming World Series games on Oct. 24, 26 and 27.
