Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) has launched an appreciation campaign offering coffee and movie screenings to about 58,000 employees at its semiconductor suppliers. The program is aimed at thanking supplier staff who have underpinned the competitiveness of the chip industry and at strengthening cooperation across the supply chain.
Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions division will run the "DS Together" program for supplier employees from this month through the end of the year, according to the company's semiconductor newsroom on the 13th.
Since the 6th of this month, Samsung has been sending coffee trucks directly to the worksites of 67 major procurement suppliers, reaching about 27,000 employees. The campaign began at Daeduck Electronics and Saesol Diamond Industrial, and has since offered drinks, snacks and prize events at supplier sites including TLB and PSK. The coffee truck events will continue through next month.
From Dec. 21 to 23, the company will hold a "Movie Day" for supplier employees and their families. About 30,000 workers from some 160 on-site suppliers, along with their families, will be offered movie screenings at theaters near Samsung's semiconductor sites in Giheung, Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek and Cheonan.
Samsung is also continuing financial support to help suppliers build competitiveness. It operates a win-win fund that lends money for equipment investment and technology development at low interest rates, as well as an interest-free fund for environmental, social and governance initiatives. The company is currently providing about 393.9 billion won ($275 million) in win-win fund loans to 159 suppliers of the Device Solutions division.
Rewards for suppliers' safety management records are also expanding. In the first half of this year, Samsung paid a combined 47.8 billion won in safety incentives to high-performing suppliers.
