There is one more preseason game on the schedule for the Los Angeles Lakers before they prepare for their regular-season opener on Wednesday, Oct. 21. They will host the Denver Nuggets at Crypto.com Arena on Friday after winning two of their four preseason contests thus far.
They haven't been fully healthy yet, which may be a reason they have had lots of issues with turnovers. Center Walker Kessler missed the first three contests with a jammed left pinky finger, forward Ziaire Williams has missed the last three games, forward Adou Thiero missed Tuesday's matchup versus the Golden State Warriors, rookie Cameron Carr sat out the last two games and guard Collin Sexton (lower leg) hasn't played at all yet.
Per Khobi Price, Williams fully participated in practice on Thursday, as did Luka Doncic, who missed Tuesday's game. Williams has had a foot ailment, but he expressed confidence in his ability to play.
Sexton participated in practice but didn't take part in live play, although coach JJ Redick said he's "trending in the right direction" in terms of being ready for next week's regular-season opener. He's dealing with a lower right leg ailment.
The Lakers have clearly missed Sexton's presence so far in the preseason. They have committed turnovers by the bucketful, and his ability to handle the ball, break down defenses and attack downhill should take lots of pressure off Doncic and Austin Reaves.
Redick said that Thiero was a limited participant in Thursday's practice and that his absence in Tuesday's game had to do with "maintenance." Carr didn't practice on Thursday.
