A small boat carrying seven individuals fired two shots toward a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier approximately 140 nautical miles southeast of the Yemeni city of Mukalla, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
In a maritime security advisory issued on Saturday, UKMTO said the vessel's armed security team responded by firing two warning shots, prompting the small boat to alter its course and move away from the LNG carrier.
The incident occurred in waters off Yemen's southeastern coastline, an area that has witnessed heightened maritime security concerns amid ongoing regional tensions and threats to commercial shipping routes.
UKMTO did not report any injuries among the crew or damage to the vessel. The LNG carrier continued its voyage following the encounter.
Maritime authorities are monitoring the situation and have urged vessels transiting the region to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
