Hopefully., that isn’t actually true.
But after Tuesday’s win over the Anaheim Ducks provided a brief reprieve from the doom-and-gloom that has mostly defined the early stages of this 2026-27 season, Thursday night against the Golden Knights in Vegas felt like more of the same.
The Flames allowed six goals for the fourth time in seven games this year, losing 6-2. Whatever positives people want to find from recent performances, this team’s inability to keep pucks out of the back of the net is an Achilles heel that won’t go away.
Dustin Wolf has looked better recently, but he stopped only 27-of-33 shots. You can nitpick about which goals were his fault, but there’s zero chance that the Flames are going to make things respectable if they don’t stop letting in so many goals.

On the other end, Matt Coronato and Jake Middleton both scored, but it never really felt like the Flames were going to make the game competitive after the Golden Knights opened up a two-goal lead in the first period.
It’s going to be a long season and the Flames probably shouldn’t beat Vegas, at least on paper.
The worry is seeing the same concerns rear their ugly heads again.
