One of the biggest questions regarding the Los Angeles Lakers as the start of the 2026-27 NBA regular season approaches is what their starting lineup will look like. Obviously, Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves and new center Walker Kessler will man three of the five starting spots, but the other two are up for grabs.
Many have felt that two-way wing Quentin Grimes will be one of those two other starters. But coach JJ Redick said on Monday that he still hasn't decided on who his five starters will be.
“We’ve certainly seen glimpses of the things we like,” Redick said. “It's hard because we've just been a little disjointed with the guys being banged up, so there's nothing definitive yet.”
Kessler jammed his left pinky finger during a training camp practice, and as a result, he didn't play in any of L.A.'s three preseason games last week. He did return to practice on Sunday, however.
Guard Collin Sexton, whom many expect to be the team's sixth man, hasn't played yet either in the preseason. Forward Ziaire Williams, who is thought to be one candidate for a starting role, missed the Lakers' last two preseason games with a left foot contusion. He had a strong showing on Monday in their preseason opener versus the Sacramento Kings.
The Lakers will have a matchup on Tuesday against the Golden State Warriors in Las Vegas before returning home to host the Denver Nuggets in their 2026 preseason finale. Their regular-season schedule will start next Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Crypto.com Arena against the Warriors.
