Ruhamya's journey to the officer ranks began in June 2025, when he enlisted in the UPDF as a private.
He later travelled to the United Kingdom for officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, one of the world's most prestigious military academies, where he completed a rigorous 44-week Officer Commissioning Course and graduated in August 2026.
His father followed a similar path, having graduated from Sandhurst himself back in 2000.
The formal commissioning ceremony took place on October 20, 2026, at the Uganda Military Academy in Kabamba, Mubende District.
President Yoweri Museveni, attending as Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, presided over the event and urged the newly commissioned officers to uphold discipline, fight corruption, and serve Uganda with honour.
Ruhamya was commissioned alongside fellow Ugandan cadet Andrew Bakyira Ruyondo, who also completed training at Sandhurst.
Why 2nd Lieutenant Rhamya's commissioning is key
The moment carries significant symbolic weight. Ruhamya's commissioning makes him the third generation of the Museveni family to hold a prominent military position, following President Museveni and his father Muhoozi.
Reports indicate Ruhamya has been attached to the elite Special Forces Command, the unit responsible for presidential protection and high-level strategic operations.
His commissioning has drawn wider political attention, given ongoing conversations about Uganda's political succession and Muhoozi's previously stated presidential ambitions.
