Three men were arrested for allegedly hunting and killing a male spotted deer for its meat using a snare wire in the Kadambur forest area in Erode district on Tuesday (October 20, 2026).
To prevent wildlife poaching, a team of Forest Department personnel led by Kadambur Forest Range Officer Sivasankaran was patrolling the Kadambur West and the power line area of the Ekkathur section of the reserve forest. During the patrol, the team intercepted three men who were standing suspiciously with a gunny bag and questioned them. They were then identified as Sadayappan (62) and Pasuvaraj (45), both from Gandhi Nagar in Kadambur, and Mayilsamy (25).
Inquiry revealed that the trio had allegedly hunted and killed a male spotted deer for its meat. The Forest Department personnel seized the snare wire and a knife allegedly used for hunting, along with the carcass of the deer.
A case was registered against the three under the Wildlife (Protection) Act. They were arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Forest officials warned that stringent action would be taken against those involved in hunting wild animals.
