SEOUL, Oct. 13 (Yonhap) -- Minister for Government Policy Coordination Lim Ki-keun said Tuesday that the Prosecution Service and the Serious Crime Investigation Agency -- newly established after abolishing the prosecution's investigative right -- will be running smoothly by December.
The two agencies were launched on Oct. 2 as a result of President Lee Jae Myung's signature policy of reforming the prosecution that has long been bedeviled for abusing its investigative power. But the agencies are struggling with operational issues due to understaffing and role confusion, among other setbacks.
"We have worked hard to make preparations, but it is true that there are confusion and difficulties," Lim said during a parliamentary audit of his office. "I am sorry for causing inconvenience."
However, he said the problems will be addressed and the agencies will "operate without any problem by December."
