The Dharavi police have registered a case against a man for allegedly submitting 24 applications objecting to entries in the draft electoral roll on a single day, exceeding the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) prescribed limit of 10 applications per day, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Saturday (October 24, 2026).
The accused has been identified as Giridhari Swaminath Jaiswal, a resident of Gangadharlal Chawl on 90 Feet Road in Dharavi East. According to the BMC, Mr. Jaiswal submitted 24 Form 7 applications in a single day in the 178-Dharavi Assembly constituency during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Form 7 is used to raise objections to the inclusion of names in electoral rolls or seek the deletion of existing entries. Under the ECI’s guidelines, an individual can submit a maximum of 10 Form 7 applications per day.
Civic officials said Mr. Jaiswal’s submissions were found to have violated the prescribed limit. The BMC further alleged that the applications contained false and incorrect information, prompting authorities to initiate legal action.
Following a complaint, a case was registered against Mr. Jaiswal at Dharavi police station under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, which provides for action against individuals who knowingly make false statements or declarations in connection with electoral rolls.

The ECI’s SIR exercise is currently underway across Mumbai. Draft electoral rolls for all Assembly constituencies were published on August 31, 2026, while the window for submitting claims and objections remains open until October 26.
The revision exercise is being conducted in accordance with directions issued by the ECI and the Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra.
