The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has reopened its National Identification Number alignment service, giving eligible candidates another opportunity to correct discrepancies between their examination records and National Identity Management Commission data.
The board announced the development through its official X handle, @jamb_hq, on Friday, explaining that the service was available to candidates who needed to reconcile mismatched personal information.
JAMB, however, cautioned that the reopening was a one-time opportunity and that approval of applications was not automatic.
The board advised candidates to ensure that any errors in their NIN records were corrected by NIMC before applying for alignment with their JAMB biodata.
It also urged applicants to review their personal information carefully and select all necessary corrections in a single submission to avoid errors that could affect the outcome of their applications.
The discrepancies may involve personal details such as names and dates of birth, among other biodata fields, depending on the corrections required.
According to the announcement, the application procedure, eligible fields for correction, verification process, and other requirements have been explained in a special episode of JAMB Explained, a video guide released alongside the notice.
The board encouraged candidates to study the guide and follow the prescribed procedure before submitting their applications.
It further warned applicants against rushing the process or submitting incomplete information, noting that applications would be subject to verification and approval.
Candidates were also advised to use only official communication channels, including JAMB’s verified social media platforms and website, for accurate information on the service.
The reopening of the NIN alignment service forms part of efforts by JAMB and NIMC to improve the accuracy and consistency of candidates’ personal records used in tertiary admission processes across Nigeria.
Candidates are expected to ensure that corrections made to their NIMC records have been fully updated before initiating the alignment process with JAMB.
Correct your details with NIMC first.
Update name, date of birth, gender, state/LGA of origin, or other fields at NIMC. Use the NIMC self-service modification portal (selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng) or visit an official NIMC centre.
Confirm the changes have fully reflected on your NIN record before proceeding with JAMB.
Gather supporting documents that match the corrected NIMC data (e.g., birth certificate, affidavit, LGA certificate, NIN slip).
Key rules from JAMB: Review every field carefully and select all required corrections in one submission.
This is a one-time opportunity.
Approval is not automatic — applications undergo verification and can be rejected.
