University of Utah Health received approval from the University of Utah Board of Trustees Oct. 13 to acquire approximately 14 acres of land where it plans to build a new Redwood Health Center.
The land will be acquired from Larry H. Miller Real Estate in Salt Lake City’s Power District, according to a news release from the health system.
The new facility will replace U of U Health’s current Redwood Health Center, allowing the system to create a larger and more modern healthcare destination for residents and communities on Salt Lake City’s west side.
U of U Health’s decision comes after the academic health system began planning to expand the existing Redwood Health Center, but leaders determined a larger and new facility would offer the best long-term opportunity to serve residents rather than expanding the current facility.
The new Redwood Health Center will help expand services, create updated spaces, improve accessibility and workflows and help better support patient care.
University of Utah Health comprises five hospitals, 12 community clinics and more than 27,000 employees, the release said.
