PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have qualified for the semi-finals of the Denmark Open, setting up a highly anticipated clash with South Korea’s world No 1 Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae for a place in the final.
In today’s quarter-final, the Malaysian world No 4 pair stamped their superiority over Japan’s Hiroki Okamura-Kyohei Yamashita, winning comfortably 21-16, 21-18 in 37 minutes at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense.
Aaron-Wooi Yik, who reunited for the World Tour Super 750 tournament after a brief split to try new combinations, last beat the South Koreans in the Asian Games semi-final last month.
However, Won Ho-Seung Jae have beaten Aaron-Wooi Yik three times in their five encounters todate.
Aaron-Wooi Yik are still looking for their first World Tour title this year after finishing as runners-up in three top-tier tournaments - the Malaysia Open, the All England, and the World Championships.
Aaron was also a runner-up at the Taipei Open when he partnered Aaron Tai as part of the Badminton Association of Malaysia's experiment to find the best combinations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
