SSG.com is creating a new business management unit and reorganizing its headquarters-centered structure into a division-based system. The online retailer is overhauling both its business and support organizations, shifting the reporting line of its sales strategy team and consolidating finance and human resources functions.
According to industry sources on the 23rd, SSG.com will establish a new business management unit and convert its existing grocery unit and data and infrastructure (D/I) unit into the grocery business division and the D/I business division, respectively.
The sales strategy team, which previously reported directly to the chief executive, will be moved under the grocery business division. Placing the sales strategy function within the food business organization is seen as an effort to strengthen the link between strategy planning and business operations.
Support organizations will also be consolidated. The existing finance management team and human resources team will be merged into a single support team, bringing management support functions together. The chief information security officer (CISO) team will be renamed the information security center.
The reorganization focuses on changing the operating structure of the business organizations while integrating support functions. The move is seen as an attempt to improve execution and operational efficiency by realigning the company around business divisions.
