Joel Klatt Harsh of Officiating at Michigan-Indiana: ‘What Are We Doing?’

Everyone now is painfully aware about Fox analyst Joel Klatt’s thoughts on Indiana’s game against Michigan on Saturday after he went off about a second quarter call on Wolverines edge rusher Tariq Boney.

After Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover failed to pass to receiver Nick Marsh, Boney received a “roughing-the-passer” call after a little contact to Hoover’s head, handing the Hoosiers a fresh set of yards.

“Oh, come on, guys,” Klatt said of the officiating. “What are we doing?”

Klatt’s partner, Gus Johnson, chimed in.

“Come on now. My goodness.”

“I understand protecting the quarterback,” Klatt continued. But when you graze with a thumb across the forehead, like, what are we doing?”

Earlier this week, the Fox analyst got huffy with the officiating over the last weekend on “The Joel Klatt Show.”

“The officiating has been hard,” he said. “The officials directly impacted results, and that’s not what they’re supposed to be doing.”

The comment was in regard to the Notre Dame-BYU finish.

A lot of fans agreed with Klatt on the ruling.

“If a thumb grazing a forehead is a penalty, every barber in America is one bad haircut away from a 15-yarder,” one person pointed out.

“Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t the rule say it needs to be ‘forcible contact,’ not just touching the head or neck are roughing the passer? C’mon man,” another commented.

“I will continue to say it, QBs are too protected now,” someone said. “Every little hit on them is a flag. They are playing football but they treat QBs as non contact. It’s actually ridiculous. QBs are playing a different game compared to everybody else.”

Indiana ended up beating Michigan 13-6.
