October 12, Colombo (LNW): The foot march led by members of the Maha Sangha in support of imprisoned Buddhist monk Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero and calling for the protection of Buddhist clergy’s religious rights entered its third day on Monday (12).
Organised under the banners ‘Justice for the Robe’ and ‘National Determination Pooja and Freedom Foot March’, the campaign began on 10 October near the historic Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. Participants are continuing their journey towards Colombo, seeking to draw public attention to their demands concerning the treatment and rights of Buddhist monks.
The organisers have mapped out a route through several towns, including Kegalle, Warakapola, Nittambuwa and Kadawatha, before the procession is expected to reach the capital on October 15.
Monday’s leg of the march is scheduled to begin in Kegalle and continue towards Warakapola, as participants press ahead with the multi-day campaign.
