A diploma holder with 10 years of work experience questions a RM2,200 salary offer after requesting RM3,500, sparking debate over qualifications and pay.
JOBSEEKERS have taken to social media to share their frustration over low salary offers, with some saying their years of work experience have not translated into better pay.
A diploma holder recently triggered an online discussion after claiming that a company offered her RM2,200 a month despite her having 10 years of work experience.
She said she had requested a monthly salary of RM3,500 but was told the amount would be too high.
“I asked for RM3,500, but they told me they would be overpaying me and could only offer RM2,200.
“Is it because I have a diploma that they refuse to offer me RM3,500?” she asked in a Threads post.
In the comments section, the woman added that she was pursuing further studies in an effort to improve her employment prospects.
Her post prompted other users to share similar experiences, with some saying they had received relatively low salary offers despite having years of work experience.
Others said they had continued their education in the hope of securing better-paying jobs.
“Ten years of work experience is priceless. Sometimes, degrees cannot compete with real-world skills. That company wanted to get as much as it could out of cheap labour,” one user commented.
“Same here! I have nine years of work experience and a degree, but I was still offered RM2,500,” another user said.
“I have a degree and five years of work experience, but a company offered me a salary of RM1,700,” another commented.
