Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn was considered to be on the hot seat before Washington’s mess against the New York Giants in Week 5. However, according to CBS analyst Bryan DeArdo, the seat just got a little hotter. Here is what DeArdo had to say about Quinn and why he is No. 2 on the hot seat rankings behind Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles:
“Quinn's first season in Washington was magic, but the more the Commanders lose, the more distant that season feels.
If Quinn wasn't on the hot seat prior to Sunday, he is now following Washington's overtime disaster that prevented the Commanders from getting their second win of the season. Washington is now 6-15-1 under Quinn since the start of the 2025 season.”
Last year, the Commanders’ lack of success could be attributed to all the injuries they suffered on both sides of the ball. While they are still dealing with plenty of injuries this season, Washington’s tie against the Giants had nothing to do with injuries. Why the Commanders chose to even run another play instead of kicking the field goal is a mystery and that decision lies with Dan Quinn.
The NFC East is a winnable division with every team except the Giants sitting with a losing record. Despite having a 1-3-1 record, there is a clear path for Washington to make the playoffs. However, if that doesn’t happen and the Commanders don’t even come close to making the postseason, Dan Quinn’s time with Washington may be coming to an end. If they make another blunder like their game against the Giants, that could also signal the end of Quinn’s head-coaching career with the Commanders.
